An Abigail Jones Mural

"ON THE CORNER of Pecan Avenue and Bay Street is a redbrick building that’s home to a fourth-generation construction business. Unlike some of its neighbors in Elizabeth, Foard Construction Co. is set back from the road and does not have a view of uptown, but brothers and owners Richard and Gary Foard now have their own version of an industrialized skyline. Artist Abigail Jones spent more than 102 hours painting the image, which takes up nearly an entire wall of the building and includes faux bricks to cover the concrete window the Foards’ grandfather built to block out the noise of passing trains. The mural is a metaphor for a company that started in 1898, before Charlotte had any skyscrapers, and grew up with the city." -Charlotte Magazine, December 2014, Emma Rosenberg
